Comparing TrafficGeyser.com and TubeMogul.com
This blog post is in response to Ray Prince's question when he commented on my "Video Rankings, Transcription & Mobile Blogging" entry.

Hi Ray, thanks for your greetings!
I hear TrafficGeyser is a great product, and the creators one (Frank, Michael & Rocket) are good people.
TrafficGeyser does more than broadcast video to 35 video-sharing sites from what I understand. Its a comprehensive service that offers slidecasting, bonus royalty-free music packs, toll-free numbers to record podcasts or testimonials, video-to-audio conversion, broadcasting to podcast directories and social bookmarking sites. For anyone who wants these features from one service for a 97/m subscription, then TrafficGeyser is for them.
TubeMogul broadcasts and tracks metrics of your videos across a dozen video sharing sites from one screen (which is super convenient). It does what it does very well, plus its free.
For those who do not mind using multiple services to accomplish what TrafficGeyser does (in one paid membership), and would prefer free services or pay-to-own-once products/services, then they can accomplish similar or better results using:
1. TubeMogul.com (free) - broadcasts & tracks metrics to 12 video-sharing sites
2. Slideshare.net (free) - creates slidecasts by mashing up your images/slides with your voice or music audio
3. MusicBakery.com (15/song or 60+/album) - pay-per-piece royalty-free music or buy albums; there are also many other royalty-free music sites on the net.
4. Google for 'free toll free numbers' to find a service that can provide you with this, and have it forwarded to your destination of choice for recording whatever you want.
Or if you don't care for the toll-free, then use:
- GrandCentral.com (free, owned by Google),
- Vonage.com (paid subscription VOIP service) or
- AudioAcrobat.com (19.95/m) - podcast, video & teleseminar recording or
- Hipcast.com (small monthly subscription) - podcast, video & teleseminar recording
or the many other services available.
5. Blip.tv (free or 8/m) - for video-sharing and hosting, but it also offers cross-posting to other popular sites and services. Plus it encodes your video to MP4, FLV and MP3 too.
6. OnlyWire.com (free), Pingoat.com (free) & RSS Submit software (100+ one-time purchase to own) - these free ping services and paid software helps you to update blog and search engine directories of your new content on your blog or at video sharing sites. Plus RSS Submit will ping podcast directories with the Podcast Plugin.
If you or anyone else would like to share with us their experiences using both, I'd welcome it here. Cheers!
As always, I welcome your thoughts, feedback and comments…

Ray Prince @ 12:35 pm:
Thanks for all these resources Sherman
I think I'll give Tube Mogul a try first before I part with the 97/mo (although TG are doing a $1 pm trial at the moment).
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks!
Ray

Trish Jones @ 6:18 am:
Sherman,
I have personally used Traffic Geyser and have a client who uses them and, I like what I've seen. My opinion though is that if you have the extra time needed to use the other services and $97 could be a stretch for you on a monthly basis, I agree that you can get the same results if not better with the services you've mentioned.
I won't use the "if you're not a techie use TG" arguement because my experience is that people who claim they are not techie are LESS likely to use TG than they are the individual services because once inside, they get overwhelmed, despite the greate training videos.
My recommendation is that people start with one of the services you've mentioned (TubeMogal.com for example), master it for a couple of weeks and then add another. This is better than paying $97 per month and using only one or two of their services or worse still, not using it at all because you're overwhelmed.
Sherman, thanks so much for what you've been sharing on your site - I love it, and you know I'm a HUGE fan of "The Man!" Hope you had a great Birthday!

Thank you for the review, Sherman. Video distribution tools save a ton of time for those getting videos out to multiple sites. At TubeMogul, we feel the analytic tools we offer are another big part of our value. Not only are you deploying videos to the top sites, but you get to see where and when your videos are working best. Many of our users utilize the grouping feature that allows you to group particular videos or publishers to aggregate viewership figures in one place.
Check it out, and let me know if you have any feedback!
Best regards,
Mark Rotblat

Hi Sherman,
For me, the biggest drawback to using TubeMogul is that the description is limited to 250 characters. Not enough if you want to get a decent listing with keywords.
Got any comments Blog King!
Trish
Sherman Hu @ 10:35 am:
250 could be a limitation but I look at it as a challenge to overcome. It requires the art of brevity while including my important search terms.
There are many video publishers who achieve millions of views from focusing on well-crafted video messaging.
Lastly, consider watermarking your videos for direct traffic as super viral videos get passed around without an opportunity to have any text descriptions to go along with it at all.

The Blogging Queen @ 4:26 am:
Thank you King Blogger, I will try to exercise some brevity. I had actually been told that you are more likely to get higher search rankings in YouTube if you had longer descriptions. I suppose your comment dashes this theory.
And sure, I will watermark my videos in future.
Thanks Sherman - valuable answer.
Trish
Sherman Hu @ 1:12 pm:
You may be right in a longer text description, its really up for testing to see how accurate that theory is.
After broadcasting via TM or TG, simply login to your YouTube account and add/modify the text description to make it longer.
The Blogging Queen @ 3:02 pm:
Well Duh King Blogger … I should have thought of that but maybe this is the reason you're the King and me … humble Queen!
Thanks Sherman, you know I appreciate you!
